Competitive Bidding

Competitive Bidding:

  • How to get into the bidding after the opposing side has already started bidding
  • How to start the bidding off by taking up some of the opponents’ bidding space
  • How to stop the interfering opponents and find the right contact for your side

Cost:  $17 per class (or $100 for the entire series of 7 classes)


YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER.  Class will cancel by the Tuesday night before the class without enough students pre-registered.

Oct. 9: Overcalls (making a bid after the opponents have started the bidding) and responding to or advancing the overcall

Oct. 23:  Take-out Doubles (after the opponent’s have started bidding, asking partner to pick a suit) and responding to or advancing the double

Oct. 30:  Pre-emptive opening bids (2 level) (taking away the opponent’s bidding room) and responses

Nov. 13:  Pre-emptive opening bids (3 level)

Nov. 27:  Interfering after a 1 NT opening bid (using the convention Disturbing Opponents NoTrump DONT)

Dec. 11:  How to overcome interference from pre-emptive bids, takeout doubles, and overcalls.  Learn what a negative double can do for you and what a redouble can do.

Jan. 8:  Lebensohl Convention – overcoming opponents interference after your side’s opening 1NT bid.

Oct. 3 – The Mechanics of this trick taking game
Oct. 10 – Hand evaluation, scoring, and practice playing
Oct. 17 – Opening bids and a start on how to respond, more playing practice
Oct. 24 – More about responding to an opening 1 level bid, more playing practice
Second Session:  Advanced Beginners
Oct. 31 – Review Opening and Responding Bids and Practice Playing
Nov. 7 – Competitive Bidding – Weak 2 and 3 level Preemptive Opening Bids
Nov. 14 – Overcalls and Takeout Double
Nov. 21 – Takeout Doubles and Negative Doubles

Carriage Club Duplicate

Tuesdays again in 2019  at 5 p.m. at the Carriage Club. If you would like to play contact Kathy. Cost is $8.  This is a shorter game; we are usually done by 7:15.
