General Class Information

Classes can be formed at any time.  A minimum of 8 students per class allows me to teach with the regular cost for each student of  $12.50 per each  2 hour lesson.   Classes of 4 students can be arranged but the cost increases to $25 per student per lesson for the smaller class.  Additional costs may be included to cover the cost of instructional materials. If you’re interested and a class is not in the schedule to fit your needs, get some friends together and form your own class.  Just call (816-237-0519) or e-mail  to set it up.

Supervised Play and classes are also available on Mondays and 1st and 3rd Wednesday. Check out Supervised Play-mini-lessons.

Cruise with Me!

I will be working as the bridge instructor/director on Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth from October 1-15, 2018. This is roundtrip out of London (Southampton), England. See the Canary Islands, Spain, and Portugal on this cruise – La Coruna, Spain; Funchal, Madeira, Portugal; La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain; Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain; Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain; Lazorote, Canary Islands, Spain, and Lisbon, Portugal.

Come join the fun! My favorite memory from Funchal, when I was there on one of my 2015 cruises!

If this sounds like fun, contact Cunard directly or talk to your travel agent.  Keep in mind, that I cannot guarantee I will be on the cruise.  Cruise lines have been known to cancel entertainment staff in favor of selling my cabin.  This however does not usually happen.  I am planning on being there!

Kids Bridge

Oh, the people you’ll meet!

What is Kids Bridge?

I give the younger students a place to play bridge with others who are just starting out as well.  All the players have completed at least the Club Series Lessons.  The purpose is to give them the opportunity to practice and to speed up their play.  It is free!  You just need to sign up ahead of time.  Parents are welcome to stay and watch!

After building up speed, for those who are comfortable with the idea, we plan to go play at some of the Duplicate Bridge Clubs in the area.

Winter 2017:

Dec. 16, 2017 4:30 – 6:30

Call 816-237-0519 or e-mail to sign up and get directions.

I will play duplicate with you at a local club. The cost for this varies from free to $30, as follows: Kid prices: First 4 times I play with you, I’ll pay my own entry fee. Next 4 times I play with you, you’ll need to pay my entry fee. Playing with you time # 9 and above, you pay my entry fee and $30.

Playing Lessons

I am happy to provide a lesson by playing with you. For adults with fewer than 800 masterpoints, this means that I will meet with you for up to 1/2 hour before playing time to go over our convention card. I will play with you, noting the bidding sequence and leads as we play. I usually refrain from making too many comments during the actual playing time. I will then stay and go over some of the issues that occurred during the session, looking at hand records if available, for up to 1/2 hour. The cost for this playing lesson service is my entry fee and $30.

For adults with 800 masterpoints or more, I am happy to play with you for free if I can fit you into my schedule!

For high school age students and younger please see my scheduled rates on the Kids Bridge page.

4th grade and older:

ACBL provides the textbook and a book bag to each student.  At the end of the 8 lessons we have a small tournament in the class and the top student gets a trophy.

ACBL pays the bridge teacher a small stipend to help compensate for the time.  So the class is free to the students!  I’d love to start a class in your school if you have at least 8 students in the class.  If you are in the greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area, I can probably fit you in to my schedule.

The classes are great as part of a math class or a gifted class.  They would work wonderfully in an after school program as well.  The classes are taught using the Bidding in the 21st Century series, which is a series of 8 two hour lessons.  It works best as 2 hour lessons, but we can modify it to work as 16 one hour lessons as well.  If you don’t live near me, contact ACBL to see if there is a teacher available in your area.

Engineering Scholarship

This scholarship is not associated with Bridge but rather with Engineering, which was both my late husband’s profession as well as my own. It is available only to graduates of the Lee’s Summit Public High Schools, St. Michael The Archangel High School, or to Lee’s Summit residents who are homeschool graduates. If you are planning on majoring in Engineering, graduating from one of these high schools, and have some music performance in your background please consider applying. This scholarship is the Eugene J. Rolfe Memorial Scholarship available via online application through the Truman Heartland Community Foundation .  It is a $1000 scholarship renewable for an additional 3 years with a college GPA of 3.0 or higher while continuing to major in engineering.
